Year B Easter 5 Sunday 10th May 2009

SUNDAY CLUB Sunday 10th May 2009 Year B Easter 5
John 15:1-8
”I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower. 2He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit. 3You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you. 4Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. 5I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. 6Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.

For the story we will talk about connections and God as the enabler.

Song – This little light of mine.

Craft
You will need: Scissors, Green paper, purple paper, a big sheet of white cardboard, and a green felt pen.
Each child will have a piece of green paper and trace their hand on it. We will then cut out two copies of the hand (just fold the piece of paper over so when you cut it out you get two). On a white cardboard poster we will glue down one hand. These become the leaves. We will then draw a green vine and stick purple ‘grapes’ onto the ‘branches’. The children can write their names on their “leaf”. We can explain the connection to the verse above.

For the children to keep: On the other ‘leaf’ we will write ‘Jesus said “I am the vine; you are the branches.”

We will also colour in Mother’s Day Cards.
