Mark 10: 46-52

Story
In Jesus’ time Bartimaeus was a blind beggar that lived in Jericho. What is a beggar? Why do you think Bartimaeus was begging?

Bartimaeus heard Jesus was coming and he cried out for help “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Some people thought he was being a nuisance and told him to be quiet.

But Jesus heard, and he called Bartimaeus over, and restored his sight.

Did you know that World Sight Day was on the 8th of October? Organisations like the Christian Blind Mission work towards restoring sight for people all over the world.

One of the problems today is the same problem poor Bartimaeus had - in some places people with disabilities are very poor - they can't earn a living or the medical help costs too much. Also, sadly, they can be misundertood and even treated badly by others.

The Christian Blind Mission asks "How's your attitude?" Having a negative attitude towards someone means that person can be "left out". But we can have a positive attitude towards others. Jesus welcomed Bartimaeus and was happy to help him.
CBM asks:
Do you know anyone with a disability?
Talk to them.
Be polite and avoid asking personal questions about their disability
Be patient
Put yourself in their shoes
